ABOUT MIKE B.
I am a guitarist. I am a beatboxer. I am a vocalist. Over the last few
years I have been exploring a technique where I do all three simultaneously,
writing music that emphasizes every element to my fullest ability. I
want to capture the magic and mystery of all my idols; bring my music
to people and bring people to me through my music. I’m not interested
in styles or labels, fitting neatly into a category in the record rack.
I want to listen and harness that which makes great music great, and
smash those barriers we’ve invented to keep each other separate.
In doing so, one begins to lose their identity.
I am deeply rooted in hip-hop; in school I frequented hardcore shows;
I wrestled with the pain and legacy of jazz; my parents gave me the
symphony; bombarded by electronics and rock and roll, samba salsa and
soul, djembe, tablas and taiko, I am all of these, and I am none. I
have been and remain on the sidelines. Watching, listening, waiting.
I’m always there, but you probably haven’t seen me. I am
invisible.
