REQUESTS

Often, at my live shows, listeners get confused as they don't
know where all the sounds are coming from. People often think there's a drum machine, CD accompaniment, if nothing else some sort of pre-recorded loop to accommodate the vocal melodies. It can be a bit confusing. So to illustrate my technique I began taking requests live; this format allows
me to break songs up into pieces and show step by step
what's going on.

I thought it might be fun to do the same on the website, so
it's an open forum. Let me know if there's anything you want
to hear, and I'll play it for you. Funny requests are
definitely appreciated.

To start, I'll show a few I've done in concert.

1. "ROW, ROW, ROW YOUR BOAT" (5.5 MB) >click to view
This was a request from a show I did at the Living Room Lounge in Brooklyn. Very strange to have this be the
highlight of a concert. The first 3 cycles are all raw, as they were at the LRL. But in preparing, I got my effects
and looper involved, and I couldn't resist. The loops begin right as the ring modulator comes on the voice.

2. "MOONLIGHTING THEME" (3.2 MB) >click to view
Often in my newer vocal songs, I will sample myself,
putting the beats and/or a bassline through a looper so that I can sing full vocals
(with lyrics) on top. This machine also allows me to overdub multiple tracks at a
time, so I can harmonize with myself or create thick layered percussion sections.
Here's a classic using the loop station on the beat.
